Crushes Them All--The Triptych

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 4 October 2010 11:58 (A review of The Triptych)

This is the 2nd heaviest album I had ever heard when I was 14. My friend showed me these guys and since then, it's my favorite album by my favorite band Demon Hunter.
This is the titan of metalcore brutality in my opinion. I've yet to find an album to top this. It's just exceptional. Insane breakdowns, killer riffs, ear destroying growling, eerie sounds, catchy melodic choruses and stellar lyrics. All jam packed into 11 tracks.
Undying is the first standout song and it's the first one I listened to. Lyrics deal with Christians and being "undying" because we believe their is life after death, hence the undying. My favorite track, however, is Science Of Lies. Science Of Lies talks about faith in man and science and how it's so flawed it's retarded. It's one of my favorite songs of all time. The chorus has crazy fast drums and melodic strumming, it gets me in a spiritual trance almost, in a good way. To this day I've yet to see Demon Hunter live, but when I do, any song played from this album will cause me to cause terror on any being near me. Triptych is very underrated it's saddening at times. :/

Favorite Tracks: all, but haha seriously Science of Lies, Undying, Not I and the cover song "Snap your fingers, snap your neck."

Demon Hunter Never Fails.

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 4 October 2010 04:19 (A review of Summer of Darkness)

Summer of Darkness: Reaching on my "Favorite 10 Albums" list, these are my jams man haha.
Ryan Clark's vocals are very aggressive and emotional in a sad yet positive way , like on the ballad "My Heartstrings Come Undone".
Beauty Through The Eyes of A Predator: Has some outstanding quick rhyming lyrics with profound supremacy over the majority of music in this world. The creepy record starting up in the beginning ahhh hyea! Growling on the other songs are as brutally-raw as ever, love it!

The lyrics focus on struggling with your/their inner self. Being Christians in a band, the topics deal with their faith and the strangeness of the world and life in general. Some are distraught and very dark, but with a sing of hope by the end of the record. Beheaded: is in my opinion, the strongest "in-yo-face" song on the record. Howard Freakin Jones does guest vocals, you know it's DEADLY. This album has it all: Breakdowns, unique chugging, eerie feel, emotional lyrics, growling, screaming, classy guitar art, awesome drum fills and catchy melodic choruses. Demon Hunter is fantastic for writing some of the most brutal and melodic music in metalcore.

Favorite tracks: Beheaded, Beauty Through The Eyes of the Predator, Not Ready
to Die and The Latest and Last.
Dislikes: I WANT MORE, a longer album and it's already 55 minutes long. haha Other than that, I wouldn't change anything to this album.
SUD helped me realize to not give up hope on: Life, Family and most importantly, God and my faith in Him and the future.
A must listen to album for some creativity and inspiration.

Dark, mediocre, disappointing and profane.

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 4 October 2010 03:54 (A review of This Is Love, This Is Murderous)

After 2 listens, I had to throw away my burned copy. I really enjoy Bleeding Through, however this is their most dismal and ridiculous album yet. Some of the jams have some exceptional tasty licks and keys, but I'm too busy being bothered by the amount of cursing. I can tolerate some, but when a few of the songs sound like ludacris is screaming, it becomes no more creative than rap..We all know rap is garbage. Why bother with it? It takes no talent to drop 20 plus f-bombs(Revenge I Seek) in one song, not creative in any point. Lyrics with anger without swearing are much more POWERFUL and JAW-DROPPING, this is the far opposite.
The vocals are as good as any other album. The lyrics really KILLED it for me. I still love these guys, just not this album.

The standout track, to me is: On Wings of Lead. Crazy good song with fantastic riffs and metal gypsyness. :p

Superb Dark Metalcore

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 4 October 2010 03:44 (A review of Portrait of a Goddess)

I stumbled upon this album, after hearing "The Truth" by Bleeding Through. With at least 4 listens, I believe this is my favorite album by them.
The songs may not be "catchy", however this emotional metalcore fest is quite memorable. Brandon's vocals are not as high pitched, like on their 2 new releases "Declaration" and "Bleeding Through". They're more diverse. The lyrics are very interesting, great yet dark. I do not enjoy songs that bring you "down", so to speak, but these songs differ with creativity and non-suicidal.
Guitars and keyboard are exceptional and truly genre defining. When I think of metalcore, I think of a few bands: KillSwitch Engage, As I Lay Dying, Demon Hunter and Bleeding Through. This album is worth listening to and has given me some inspiration for some killer song ideas. Killer album fools!

Killer Songs: "Just Another Pretty Face" and "Savior, Saint, Salvation"

Futurama review

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 30 September 2010 09:36 (A review of Futurama)

I watch a lot of weird shows that people don't get, but I can't see how so many people like this show. I don't find it humorous in any way. Guess I just clearly missed the point of the whole thing.

Whispering Mute? Huh?

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2010 05:21 (A review of The Raven)

Now this is one freaky hilarious film. I love this film because it's so terrible. Jack Nicholson's Andre from France, or as he says "I'm ANN-drey from Fraaance." Goodness his accent is horrible but funny. He plays a French soldier, whom rides on a horse. However in many scenes, the horse changes color..aka different horse hahaha. There's a mute, who can whisper...yea and creepy tombstone/graveyard scenes. One of the best parts, is that bricks are falling into water and they float...hahah.

For a good laugh watch this film, it's ridiculous. I give it a 6 because it's so funny but overall it's a really bad film hahaha.

Citizen Kane review

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2010 05:09 (A review of Citizen Kane)

Quite an excellent film, with the exception of the rather stupid ending. Orson Welles' acting and direction were phenomenal but this movie, overall is not the best by any stretch of the imagination. I really believe that without the hype, I would have enjoyed this film more.

The Best-Worst Directer: Ed Wood.

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 29 September 2010 04:37 (A review of Ed Wood (1994))

Pure excellence. Johnny Depp shows us all again, why he's one of the best actors ever. No-one else could have portrayed Wood, impossible. Ed wood was a crazy eccentric character. Most likely the worst actor ever, you still root for him in this biography/movie. Wood is like the 'under-dog' if you will.
Bella Lugosi is one of my favorite actors. He was the coolest monster, in my book. Landau did a fantastic performance as the famous vampire. He breathed life into the aged Lugosi and even humor! Bill Murray's small role as Breckinridge was quite funny as well.
Apart from the transvestites, whom freak me out, this film was hilarious with "wow" dialogue. Ed wood's love interests (S.J.Horse-face-Parker and Patricia Arquette), fire up the film with drama and even humor. I really liked this film a lot. I appreciate Ed Wood, even more now. I've always liked Plan 9's terrible-ness, yet loved it.
In conclusion, WATCH THIS FILM haha!

WhitePoopel

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 28 September 2010 09:11 (A review of This Is Exile)

I first heard of this band from a few people. I took a gander to see what they're like. Trash..yea. This group has 3 guitarists, sounds cool, too bad all they do is riffs and breakdowns. No intricate guitar work on this album my any means. With 3 guitarists, they could have had TREMENDOUS potential. The best and only likable part on the album, is the drumming and some breakdowns. I may have not liked this album, but seeing them live, I would still mosh. The lyrics are like most death metal, yet to extreme and messed up for me. If that's your thing..go for it. Overall this is a pretty lame album.. disappointment.

decent song: self titled

(3.7-10)

Hell Must Fear Me.

Posted : 13 years, 7 months ago on 27 September 2010 02:55 (A review of The Serpent Servant)

The monstrous Impending Doom, throw a near perfect strike down the alley with this 2nd release. Unlike Nailed.Dead.Risen, their first release, Doom ventures into a more "listenable" type of metal.

There's a big step up from gore-grind to deathcore/death metal. The intro track "When Waters Run Deep", kicks your mood into a "circle-pit" mindset with it's eerie guitar riffs and gutturals. The vocalist Brooke goes from inhaling growling and pig squeals, to straight up awesome growling by exhaling. This is why I believe, this album is more popular. "When Waters.." runs right into the title track like a TSUNAMI.

Bone Crushing breakdowns, lyrics concerning the end times, hypocrites, faith and brutality. I'm a ridiculous fan of breakdowns and "More Than Conquerors" has one of my top 5 breakdowns..ohh man. Vocals are more understandable, production on this album is ear shattering and an awesome album overall.

Tracks to hear: Anything Goes and More Than Conquerors.

9.3/10
